MWENDO Group Update – July 2024
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your tremendous support for Kalinda Village in Zambia in memory of John Eliasov. Thanks to the wonderful response from you all, I am delighted to announce that the MWENDO group has successfully raised additional funds to support the installation of solar electricity at Samuel Rural Health Center in Kalinda Village, Zambia.
Samuel Rural Health Center, located in the Kasenegwa region of Zambia currently serves an astonishing 10,172 community members and operates without access to electricity. The medical staff are unable to provide the patients with adequate health care and express their pleas for support.
The health center delivers an average of 29 babies a month and it is truly remarkable that out of these births, 22 take place during the night time, guided only by harmful kerosene lamps and candles. This stark reality highlights the dire situation faced by the healthcare providers.
I have included some images below that illustrate the dire situation of the health center. Your generosity will directly impact its ability to provide essential healthcare services, benefiting generations to come.—The Electricity will be switched on during our visit to open the taps in Kalinda. Any extra donations received will be used to upgrade the Health Centre with essential needs such as Fridges, Beds etc – So please carry on interesting other people in joining this Life Changing project.

When Carol & I started our connection with InnoAfrica and established the MWENDO Group, among the first people who enthusiastically joined us were John & Judy Eliasov (formerly Bulawayo, now Israel). John passed away suddenly 5 months ago. His passing has left a very big void in many lives – John touched so many people with his understanding, friendship and kindness to others. He was of great assistance in promoting the wonderful cause of IA and was instrumental in bringing in many donations that allowed us to continue our endeavors
Judy & the Family are both pleased and moved by our suggestion that this project be dedicated to the memory of JOHN ELIASOV z”l. A commemoration plaque will be placed on the Water Tower. Hopefully, Judy, with members of the Family, will travel to be personally present at the “Opening of the Taps “ ceremony – truly an unforgettable occasion.
Kalinda Village (https://ia-monitoring.com/public_relations/prospective_project/2174) is remotely located in Sinda district, Zambia. This village is home to 4,616 community members, all of whom are reliant on open and contaminated sources of water. The community is suffering from severe and widespread cases of waterborne diseases, including typhoid and dysentery and your support will certainly alleviate this suffering and transform their lives for the better (The village is in the same district as our Nyamsoka village project from 2022.)
Mary Banda is a 21 year old mother of 2 who resides in Kalinda Village, Zambia. She is faced with the daunting task of waking up at 3 am every day to fetch water from a contaminated water source. The water has led to frequent illnesses such as diarrhea which has forced Mary to seek medical attention at the village clinic. These additional expenses further strain her finances. Mary hopes that the provision of clean water to her community would alleviate these hardships, eliminating the need for lengthy journeys to fetch water and reducing the prevalence of waterborne illnesses.
IA also shared that successful drilling took place at Kalinda village on March 18th 2024, yielding 1.3 liters of water every second! The community members were filled with joy and are eagerly anticipating the positive transformation their village will undergo once this project is completed.
As per the Innovation Africa protocols, water samples were collected from the borehole and sent to the laboratory for testing. The IA team confirmed that the water was deemed safe and fit for human consumption.
The borehole has now been sealed to prevent contamination and the IA water and civil engineers have completed the water system design, identifying the optimum location for the tower and water distribution points throughout the village.
The project’s next phase, the construction phase, is set to commence shortly. We will continue to receive updates throughout the project’s lifecycle.
The Budget for this project is $80,000 including the drilling already completed. Any oversubscription will be used in order to enhance other facilities in the village. The minimum contribution is $1,000
These are tough times in the world.
Our gift of water to these isolated villages is both life saving and life changing. We need to expand our membership , please feel free to forward this mail to anyone who you feel would be interested in joining .
