Leib Frank

With thanks to David Kaplan for sharing the article he wrote about Leib Frank z”l’s service during World War II.  The Frank family lived in Bulawayo for many years and Leib was a director/treasurer of the Rhodesian Zionist Council in its early years before he made aliyah in 1961 where he later became director The SA Zionist Federation (Israel) which became known as Telfed.

This past October 2022 saw the 80 th Anniversary of the Battle El Alamein pass undeservedly without muchfanfare. One can only imagine the concern of the Jews in Palestine at the time fearing the worst. Their fate and the fate of a Jewish state hung in the balance – it hung on the outcome of one battle that proved a turning point in the war, halting the advance of the Axis powers in North Africa and paving the way for final victory. British leader Winston Churchill said famously in the wake of the victory:
“ Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning”.
