Gweru (Gwelo) Jewish Community

The Gweru Community was established in the early 20th Century and the last member passed away in 2003.  The articles below and references provide additional details to the story of this small midlands community which lies about 90 mins north east of Bulawayo by car.

There is a small Jewish Cemetery of approximately 50 gaves in Gweru. Go to the Cemeteries menu above for details.

Prof Jay A Waronker has done extensive work in recording the Synagogues of Africa and these two water-colours show the exterior and interior of the former Gweru Synagogue in 2005.
